Beyond Sustainability - Our Family Farm:
Two words some it up...All Natural. No pesticides, no insecticides, no herbicides, no chemicals period! The sufix of each of those words cide, French -cide, from Latin -cida, used to make nouns meaning the killing of the person or thing indicated by the first component of the word. Why have we come to use so much poison in the development of our food, polluting our environment and bodies? After much reading about our industrial food system that has taken shape since WW2, I have come to a conclusion. It appears to me that the industrial production of food coincides with the onset of chronic illness in the western diet. We at Creekwood Acres set out to produce humanely raised animals for food in a symbiotic relationship, each supporting the other. We focus on restoring and bettering the land with each passing season, while producing high quality food. The systems are quite simple, yet labor intensive. The time spent with the animals is whole and complete, and to us sacred. We give to the animals, they give to each other. The process rejuvenates the environment and us, hence the circle of life and a meaningful connection to our food source.
